the theory of Art Therapy relies, on the one hand, upon art and upon studies about creativity, and on the other hand, upon psychodynamic studies: artistic works constitute a way for expressing and communicating the inside world and a place which gives a visible and shared form of one's own reality. greater importance is given to all those phenomena which concern expression of symbols and creative processes. the language of the work constitutes the main element of verbal and non verbal dialogue which happens between patient and therapist. therefore the use of artistic materials is extremely important to promote and facilitate expression and communication.
